Lionsgate+ announces the end of operations in Brazil

Lionsgate+ officially announced on Tuesday (28) that it will close its operations in Brazil. According to a streaming statement, the service will only be available in the country until December 11 this year.

Lionsgate+ hosts series like The act, Spartacus, normal people, The Tudors, The great, Castle Rock, Ash vs. Evil Dead, The Witches of Mayfair AND Gaslit.

In response to a user on Instagram, the platform reassured subscribers by saying that the entire catalog will be available on Amazon’s Prime Video. However, it did not explain where the content will go after the February 9, 2024 deadline. The company also did not clarify the future of its original series which will depend on continuations.

Major waterways in Brazil in 2023

The best known and most used streaming by Brazilians, obviously, is Netflix. The service is a leader in Brazil with 29% usage nationwide, according to JustWatch data. Second place went to Amazon’s Prime Video (19%), and third and fourth went to Disney+ (14%) and HBO Max (13%), respectively.

With the rise of the platforms, the Senate recently approved a proposal regulating the service in the country. The project involves paying a tax of up to 3% on gross streaming revenues. Find out more here!
