Netflix subscribers will discover or rediscover Nanny McPhee as a family, a very well-acted tale with an art direction that fits the genre perfectly without devolving into caricature. If you haven’t yet, go see it, you won’t regret it.
And if you prefer reading, here’s everything you need to know about the children’s books that inspired the movie
The film opens with Mr. Brown (Colin Firth), a widower struggling to manage seven children who make his life a living hell. In addition, this father lives under pressure because his job is more and more demanding and he must get married as soon as possible if he does not want to lose Aunt Adelaide’s financial support. One fine day, Nanny McPhee arrives, who will try to restore order in all this.
If the beginning sounds like Mary Poppins without the songs, Nanny McPhee is better than that and deserves to be rediscovered! First of all for the incredible make-up, which makes us completely forget about the actress Emma Thompson, who plays the nanny. He is also the screenwriter of the film based on the children’s books by author Christiana Brand.
It offers a real adventure movie with a magical atmosphere, perfect for a short movie session at home. Because if Nanny can be scary, she very quickly becomes an ally to the entire Brown family, and young viewers will quickly win over!

Colin Firth
Fans of the Labyrinth trilogy will be able to recognize among Mr. Brown’s children a very young Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who would later play Newt in the saga, and Jojen Reid (Bran’s guide) in Game of Thrones.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Note that if you enjoyed this movie, Netflix is currently hosting its sequel, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, again written by and starring Emma Thompson:
