TF1 goes into zen mode! Tonight, the channel will present the first two episodes of Panda, its new landmark detective series hosted by Julien Dore and Ophelia Colby.
In this fiction, Julien Doré replaces the microphone in Victor Pandalon’s shoes. Also nicknamed Panda, this ex-cool-loving cop turned beach barman in a remote corner of the Camargue.
A colorful world, floral shirts or even a passion for animals, there are many similarities between Julien Doré and the character he portrays on screen. If the series was really written for the singer, another detail brings Julien Doré’s program closer: the panda.
Indeed, in the video clip of the song Coco CuddleThe singer appears on screen dressed as a panda and gyrates in front of a poster of a heavenly beach. A detail that seems huge at first glance… does this mean the TV series has a link to the music video for this hit song?
Well, against all odds, the answer is no.
“It’s funny because everyone is obviously thinking about the Coco Câline music video” explained Thomas Mansui, one of the authors of the series, during an interview. He specified, “It’s an urban legend in the making. It’s not inspired at all.”.
If any resemblance to reality is therefore completely coincidental, this chapter is still welcome to get people talking about the series. But why is the series called Panda?
Why is the series called Panda?
When giving the title to the TF1 series, the character’s name did not yet exist. The screenwriters of this detective comedy, Thomas Mansuy and Mathieu LeBlanc, brainstormed to find a name that perfectly suited its main character and his Zen world.
According to Thomas Mansui, “The panda is a gentle, somewhat clumsy and endangered animal. We thought to ourselves that a pacifist cop lost in his shack seemed like a good definition for the character. That is, he is a little adapted, a creature in the process of disappearing, very gentle and very sensitive like a panda.“.
Therefore, they chose the title as a play on their character’s name. “We said, “Panda. Victor Pandalon.” We changed his last name to fit Panda.– concludes Thomas Mansui.
This is how the story of Panda was born!
