If he’s not quite ready to mourn Game of Thrones by watching House of the Dragon, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is still ready to return to the genre that made him famous.
Thus, Jaime Lannister’s interpreter recently got the main role in the medieval and bloodthirsty series dedicated to one of the most famous characters in the history of the British monarchy.
The Danish actor will definitely play William the Conqueror in the TV series titled The King and the Conqueror. This American-British production from CBS and the BBC will focus on the battle between the Duke of Normandy and his rival Harold Godwinson (James Norton) to succeed England’s King Edward the Confessor, who died without an heir.
Two series produced in parallel
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who is really used to the throne wars, will start filming this new series in 2024. This program is being produced in 2027 for the Millennium celebrations of the birth of William the Conqueror. Another series dedicated to the character will see the light of day in France, by Studio Mediawan.
“These two series will air in 2026 and will be the William the Conqueror Millennium launch in 2027.”HervĂ© Morin, president of the Normandy region, said during a trip to London (via the regional daily Normandy of Paris).
The King and Conqueror series will be written by Michael Robert Johnson, most notably the screenwriter of the first Sherlock Holmes, but also of Pompeii, starring another Game of Thrones alumnus: Kit Harington. The first episode of the series will be directed by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur.
