Virgin River on Netflix: What’s Mel’s Dad’s Secret?

Be warned, the following paragraphs contain spoilers for the final two episodes of Virgin River Season 5. If you don’t want to know anything, move on!

After weeks of waiting, Netflix has finally released the final two episodes of Virgin River Season 5 online. Christmas sweaters, mulled wine and artificial snow were on display for these two festive events.

And if, as usual, the romance series led by Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson took time to advance various plots, this highly anticipated finale still offered surprises.

In the Season 1 finale, Mel is shocked to learn that her mother was having an affair with a man from Virgin River and that this man may be her biological father.

In the second episode, released online on Netflix this Thursday, November 30, Mel and Jack set out to find him and end up on the trail of a certain Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson).

While initially refusing to admit that he is the young woman’s father, he changes his mind in the final moments of Season 5 and finds Mel in her chalet. He then confides in her that he is indeed her father and takes the opportunity to bring her the letters her mother wrote to him.

“I have something important to say” he explains to her before the credits roll. But what could he say to her?

What is Mel’s father’s secret?

American media asked TVInsiderPatrick Sean Smith, Virgin River’s showrunner, preferred to keep the cliffhanger that would change everything for Mel a secret.

“This is the effect we wanted“, he explained, before adding:You’ll have to watch season 6 to find out what happens.He certainly didn’t want to confirm whether this trust was related to the character’s health or something else.

Will Mel discover she has a second family? Or that his father is suffering from a serious illness? To find out the answer to these questions, we will have to wait for the 6th season, which should start shooting in the coming months.

One thing is for sure, Everett’s arrival in Mel’s life should bring a new dynamic to the young nurse’s life. “In Season 6, we’ll explore a fatherly love triangle of sorts“- explained the showrunner TVLine.

“Doc has always been Mel’s surrogate father, so let’s see what happens when her real biological father comes into her life and how it affects their relationship.“

Virgin River Season 6 will also allow us to learn more about this character who “Lives on the edge of societyAs explained by Patrick Sean Smith.

“He’s really cut off from society, and we find out it’s for very emotional reasons. So I think that’s part of the conflict in Season 6, between Mel enjoying this relationship and her having to grow up to understand where she’s at..”
