Who has never sent a nude and then regretted it for fear of being exposed, throw the first stone. Digitizing one’s nudity has become a common act in virtual seduction games.

Men and women use the resource for sexual purposes, but they are the main victims of the most predictable side effect: the intentional (and criminal) escape of photos and videos.

Often it is revenge porn, that is, whoever makes the disclosure acts in an attempt to tarnish the public image of the victim. It’s 2022 and a woman who flaunts naked is still being judged as if the Middle Ages didn’t end 600 years ago.

The “Intimacy” series, recently released on Netflix, highlights the hateful practice of exposing, blaming and humiliating the woman who has a shared nude. The 8 episodes revolve around some characters.

The main one is Malen Zubiri (Itziar Ituño, the Raquel / Lisboa de ‘La Casa de Papel’), deputy mayor of Bilbao, in the electoral campaign. A video showing sex with a casual lover on a beach disrupts her family life and his political agenda.

Years before being a victim, Malen also made the mistake of assaulting a woman weakened by a sexual crime. Imperfect and, at the same time, a perfect sign of her time, the protagonist represents the corrosive damage that revenge porn produces in a lifetime and also the possibility of transforming a personal drama into an example to save other people shaken by the same vile method of embarrassment. .

At the same time, we follow the drama of a young worker, Ane (VerĂłnica Echegui), who leaked intimate material from someone from her past at the factory where she works. She undergoes emotional torture which results in tragedy.

“Intimacy” also focuses on women who do not have shared photos and recordings, but live in fear of possible overexposure of what they have done in intimacy with someone they trusted at the time.

The series has numerous qualities. The script that flows at different times, the moving interpretations, the cutting dialogues, the discussion on how the woman who dares to face men in general and, above all, in the circles of power, becomes an easy target of machismo (also by others women), intolerance and corporatism.

More than an entertainment production, “Intimacy” is a fictional document that deserves to be widely discussed, reflecting a social problem that hurts and kills countless women every day.
