Elvis Presley’s interpreter in the biopic, Austin Butler reported personal sacrifices during filming
Austin Butler had difficulties in reconciling personal and professional life while filming Elvis. The actor plays the King of Rock in the singer’s biopic – scheduled for release in July this year.
“What am I trying to learn? [agora] it’s like balancing your personal life after giving in to a role obsession,” he said in an interview with AND! (via Monet). “I haven’t seen my family for three years. I haven’t seen any of my friends in all that time either.”
Butler recalled difficulties faced when reacting to criticism about her performance in the feature film: “There’s this moment when you’re on the train, and people praise you, other people talk bad about you. And for me, every day, it’s reflecting: ‘ Okay, what is reality?’ It’s just being grateful.”
After so many months of dedication, the actor found it difficult to get out of character and continued talking like Elvis.
“It’s funny because certain situations trigger, I think,” he said in an interview with Yahoo! lifestyle. “I mean, that was the voice I spoke for two years. It’s so natural at the end, you break up and you kind of don’t remember what your real voice is.”
In another interview, for Elle Australia, Butler explained that “making the voice” of the Elvis helped him face shyness in interviews. “I am a shy person, and when I know that there are parts of Elvis that I would have to wear to go on stage and be in front of a ton of people, surrounded by his name everywhere, it becomes a trigger,” he said.
