Ryan Grantham apologized to his family for the crime at a hearing held Wednesday
Ryan Granthamactor known for playing Jeffery Augustine in the series riverdale and that he killed his mother, said the woman did nothing to deserve the crime.
The information comes from the Canadian broadcaster CTV News. The artist attended a hearing in Vancouver on Wednesday 15 to stand trial for the crime.
Next, he lit candles, hung rosaries on the instrument the woman was playing, and said a few prayers before leaving the house with the intention of killing more people, according to the actor’s testimony at the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
“My mother was a caring, compassionate and loving person. She did nothing to deserve what I did to her,” Grantham said during the trial.
He even apologized to the family for the crime. “Faced with something so horrible, apologizing seems almost useless. But from every fiber of my being, I’m sorry,” said the artist referring to family members, who were sitting in the front row of the court and were moved by the lines.
During the session, a forensic psychologist employed by the defense stated that Ryan’s mental state was “far from normal” at the time of the murder and described him as “unstable, chaotic, ambivalent and fragile”.
Chris Johnsonthe plaintiff’s attorney, said a depressive disorder, cannabis use and Grantham’s isolation all contributed to the crime.
According to the statement, the artist was postponing his studies and hadn’t acted since he attended riverdale. Ryan, according to the attorney, decided to kill her mother because she didn’t want her to realize her “her faults”.
After the assassination, the actor still had plans to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. When he turned himself in to the police, he said he wanted to do something that “made an impact”.
“I was in a hurry and he was the only person I could think of, the most important person in Canada,” Grantham confessed.
The artist also considered carrying out massacres in The Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver and go Simon Fraser Universitywhere he studied, in addition to committing suicide, but decided to go to a police station to confess the crime.
At court, he stated that he was trying to be “a better, honest, good person”. The lawyer also added that the client is a “very different person than she was in March 2020” and that she is now part of a male support group.
Ryan was found guilty of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, with 10 to 25 years ineligibility for parole. The judge in charge of the case has yet to make a decision, according to CTV News.
