From November 24 to December 2, Marrakesh became an essential meeting place for international cinema. The festival celebrated its twentieth edition there in a specific context, more than two months after the earthquake in Morocco. Therefore, it is a more sober event organized to honor young filmmakers from around the world.
In total, 75 films from 36 different countries were shown during eight days. For this 20th edition, the chairmanship of the jury was entrusted to the Oscar-winning actress, Jessica Chastain. In his entourage were Iranian actor Zar Amir, French woman Camille Cotin, Australian actor and director Joel Edgerton, British film director Joanna Hogg, American Dee Reese, Swedish-Egyptian director Tariq Saleh, Swedish actor Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd and Franco. – Moroccan writer Leila Slimani.
For the first time in the history of the festival, the first prize was awarded to a Moroccan film. Here is the full list:
