Peaky Blinders producers – Caryn Mandabach Productions (CMP) – reunite Vikings and The Tudors creator Michael Hirst, Cat Clarke (Good Marks, Ten Percent) and Dario Poloni for the new historical drama. “A mix of coming-of-age stories and high stakes that change the world’s actions and ideas”according to Deadline.
Titled Civil Blood, the series will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle, who notably produced the Netflix series The End of the F***ing World. Set in 17th century England, this new fiction follows the adventures of a young woman growing up during the war.
According to the producers, Civil Blood is in the final stages of development. “This story has history, heart, family and war – all wrapped up in punk energy”said director Jonathan Entwistle.
“It’s an understudied period of history, and certainly not in that sense.”he continued. “There’s an American Western feel to this world. At its heart is an iconic character with a great pop sensibility—a man who thinks history only happens to other people, until cataclysmic events bring history back to the present.”
Jamie Glazebrook, creative director of CMP, believes Jonathan Entwistle’s vision is “New, lively, innovative” And that the script was written by Michael Hirst and Cat Clarke “Provocative, deeply moving and entertaining”.
New success with Civil Blood? The first elements delivered on this series are promising in any case and place this production in the next series to watch. While the producer has yet to announce a date, we can still expect the film to start filming in 2024 and release in 2025.
