The actors’ union officially ends the Hollywood strike

Nearly a month after reaching an agreement with the studios, the Hollywood Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) ratified the new labor agreement and officially ended the largest strike in the history of the industry. The confirmation came on Tuesday (5), with 78% of members approving the proposal.

The strike had already been suspended since November 8, when the actors’ union reached a provisional agreement with representatives of the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). However, the proposed terms still had to be voted on and approved by workers. If this did not happen, the actors would resume the strike.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher celebrated the agreement and said the episode marks a new era for the industry.

The AMPTP Companies congratulate SAG-AFTRA on ratifying the new contract, which represents a historic gain and protection for actors. With this vote, the industry and the jobs it supports will be able to return in full force.
