The traumatic beheading of Ned Stark in the first season of the series, the unforgettable shock of the Red Wedding in the 3rd season, the unexpected poisoning of Joffrey Baratheon-Lannister in the 4th season, or the memorable and merciless duel between the Viper and the Mountain, after a few episodes…
Since its pilot aired on HBO in April 2011, before its final chapter was announced in 2019, the TV series Game of Thrones (adapted from the works of George AR Martin) has thrilled millions of fans around the world.
However, in the middle of the series, the last episode of season 5 shook the audience with more fervor than usual. Creating a veritable tsunami on the evening of its broadcast (June 14, 2015), the scene had an even greater impact, as it closed the season and would therefore leave the public hungry for more than 10 months (Season 6 will not be broadcast until April. of the following year).
under the name mother’s mercyThis tenth and final episode of season 5 has already brought many surprises to Game of Thrones fans: the defeat of Stannis Baratheon’s army and the latter’s death by Brienne, the escape of Sansa and Theon, the exile of Daenerys. The poisoning of Myrcella and of course Cersei’s “walk of shame” through the streets of King’s Landing.
After all that emotion, we’d have expected the series’ writers to let us off with a gentler conclusion, just to quietly process the rest of the episode. It would be so bad to meet them! So, it is to the territory of Castle Black, at the foot of the wall, that the directors of Game of Thrones took us in the last minutes of this episode 10.
After Samuel’s departure to Oldtown and the announcement of Stannis’ fall, Jon Snow prepared for the next operation, having recently welcomed the Wildling against the advice of his men. Summoned to a snowy prison yard in the middle of the night, he was confronted by a brutal and unexpected mutiny, wounded without warning by his “loyal” subordinates.
After receiving several stab wounds to his back, the young commander fell to the ground, and the final shot of the episode showed him lying on the snow, slowly bleeding out.
An image that blew up social networks significantly from the evening of the show and caused discussions among fans for many months. Fortunately, as some might suspect, this death was not final, and Jon Snow was therefore revived by Melisandre in the second episode of Season 6 the following year.
