Cruzeiro concluded the 2023 Brazilian Championship in the best possible way. After a long fight against relegation until the penultimate round, the team drew 1-1 with champion Palmeiras, at Mineirão, and managed to secure a place in the Copa Sudamericano. The highlight is the work of Paulo Autuori, who, together with assistant Fernando Seabra, managed to end a short period undefeated.
Taking over from Raposa after the defeat against Coritiba, in the deplorable episode of the invasion of fans in Vila Capanema, there were six matches under the guidance of Autuori. In total there were two wins and four draws. With a success rate of 67%, the team won ten important points out of a possible 18, which are essential to avoid the Serie B and bring the team back to the international scene.
After playing in the Libertadores in 2019, Cruzeiro was absent from Conmebol competitions for four years, also due to relegation, and a long period in the second division.
