The coach took office after the defeat against Coritiba, avoided Raposa’s fall and led him to the South American championship
Cruzeiro concluded the 2023 Brazilian Championship in the best possible way. After a long fight against relegation until the penultimate round, the team drew 1-1 with champion Palmeiras, at Mineirão, and managed to secure a place in the Copa Sudamericano. The highlight is the work of Paulo Autuori, who, together with assistant Fernando Seabra, managed to end a short period undefeated.
Taking over from Raposa after the defeat against Coritiba, in the deplorable episode of the invasion of fans in Vila Capanema, there were six matches under the guidance of Autuori. In total there were two wins and four draws. With a success rate of 67%, the team won ten important points out of a possible 18, which are essential to avoid the Serie B and bring the team back to the international scene.
After playing in the Libertadores in 2019, Cruzeiro was absent from Conmebol competitions for four years, also due to relegation, and a long period in the second division. Now, the team under the technical command of Paulo has managed to return to a tournament on the continent. Raposa last played in the Copa Sudamericana in 2017.
Despite the good work done, Autuori has made it clear that he has no intention of continuing in his current role. Previously a member of Ronaldo Fenômeno’s management as technical director, the football veteran is expected to resume this role at Raposa. As a result, the current SAF will be tasked with looking for a new commander for next season. Also in parallel, Fernando Seabra should return to command the Under 20s, especially in view of the Copa San Paolo.
Until then, Cruzeiro will make the most of his vacation. Now the team will only have a commitment in January 2024, in the Campeonato Mineiro, which will start on the 24th of next month.
