Robert Downey Jr.: ‘It’s probably the worst action movie of all time’ Iron Man star wants to forget it

Before entering the golden age of his career as Tony Stark in Jon Favreau’s first Iron Man in 2008, Robert Downey Jr.’s journey was not a long, smooth river. The 90s, spent with drug problems and several rehabs, certainly offered him roles in lesser-known gems and an Oscar nomination for best actor for Chaplin, but also very bad memories.

In 2010, between the pages of his biography Robert Downey Jr.: The Fall and Rise of the Comeback KidThe Iron Man interpreter notably returned to the filming of the US Marshals spin-off The Fugitive with Harrison Ford, and in which Tommy Lee Jones reprized the character of Samuel Gerard for the second chase. In this action thriller by Stewart Baird, Robert Downey Jr. played Special Agent John Royce, who was involved in the search to find a fugitive (played by Wesley Snipes).

“It’s probably the worst action movie of all time and definitely not good for mental fitness.”The actor said in his work, first of all, he meant crossing the desert, which he was experiencing at the same time.

“You’re having a terrible year, you’re on the verge of suicide, what do you think it’s going to do you any good? Maybe twelve weeks of running around with guns in your hands?”

“I think if you talked to a spirit guide about this, they’d tell my kids, ‘This is going to kill you.’

And unfortunately, Robert Downey Jr. speaks with knowledge, because after being released by US marshals, he served a year in prison for a new drug offense. However, in the early 2000s, he managed to find a way to redeem himself, deciding to give up drugs for good: a choice he made, in his own words, by consuming a particularly disgusting hamburger.

A few years later, he donned the Iron Man armor for the first time, opening a whole new chapter in his story.
