1.2 billion at the box office: Will this evil saga return for a 3rd film?

He’s one of the most famous movie villains and he’s coming back for a third movie!

In 2014, Angelina Jolie brought to life the sorceress Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty (1959) in Robert Stromberg’s live-action film. Four years later, the actress re-entered the costume of the famous Disney villain in Maleficent: The Power of Evil.

According to The Wall Street JournalAngelina Jolie has just signed on for the third Maleficent movie. We still don’t know if Elle Fanning – who plays Princess Aurora – will return or who will direct the feature film.

The income of the first two parts amounted to 1.2 billion dollars at the international box office. Maleficent grossed $759 million, followed by $491 million.

If the first part goes back to the beginning of the character and explains the reason why the young woman became evil, the second opus takes place a few years later, during her marriage to the Prince of Avro.

Directed by Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Revenge of Salazar), the film also stars Harris Dickinson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sam Riley, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Leslie Manville.

We still don’t know when Maleficent 3 will be released.
