Jogada10 analyzes the entire scam that led to the removal of Ednaldo Rodrigues from command of the entity and its consequences
Jogada10 has prepared some material with questions and answers so that you can understand all the mess that led the Court of Justice to remove Ednaldo Rodrigues from the presidency of the CBF this Thursday (7/12). And also all the consequences that this could bring in the short term.
1 – Question: What pushed Ednaldo Rodrigues to leave the command of the CBF?
Answer: An action that will see you elected president for the term 2022 to 2026.
2 – Q: What was this situation?
A: Ednaldo took office in August 2021 to replace Rogerio Caboclo, president elected in 2017 and with a mandate until 2023. But Caboclo was removed due to allegations of moral and sexual harassment against a CBF employee. Ednaldo had the support of 23 of the 27 state federations to complete Caboclo’s mandate.
However, during his tenure, Ednaldo sought to end a 2015 lawsuit that stalled in court. In it the Serie A and B clubs asked for the right to vote for the presidency of the CBF. Ednaldo has reached an agreement with the Public Administration to close the issue by proposing the possibility of new changes favorable to the clubs. He had the support of the clubs. It was 2022 and Ednaldo proposed to bring forward the elections. So it happened. And he was elected for a term from 2022 to 2026. However, the vice-elects for the period from 2017 to 2023 in the Caboclo administration contested. They claimed they had wasted a year in office. They went to court. It is this challenge that received the favorable opinion of the Court of Justice this Thursday (7/12). The Court found that the Public Prosecutor’s Office had no legal right to enter into such an agreement.
3 – Q: But then take Ednaldo Rodrigues?
By law there was no way. Since the Court said that the deputy did not have the legitimacy to judge the case and enter into an agreement with Ednaldo in 2022, the early elections were annulled. Ednaldo should therefore be president until March 2023, when the mandate (2017-2023) that the then elected and then deposed president Rogério Caboclo should exercise will expire. Therefore, if we are in December 2023, there is no legal president for the term from 2023 to 2027. To avoid the absence of a president in the CBF, an intervenor was appointed, in this case the president of the STJD, José Perdiz.
4 – Q: Will Perdiz therefore be the new leader of the CBF?
No. An intervener must organize elections within 30 days. The person elected in this election will be the one who takes over.
5 – Q: Is there a possibility that Ednaldo Rodrigues will return to the role of president?
Yes. And they are not small. There are two ways. He can appeal to court (which perhaps he has already done) and, in the next few hours, win the right to return to his place. Or even run for office in these elections, which the intervener will have to do within 30 days. Ednaldo didn’t leave because of corruption or any issue that would prevent him from running. His dismissal is due to the fact that the Court of Justice believes that the MP is not legal for agreements of this type with a private entity (such as the CBF). Only with public bodies.
Ednaldo and the CBF elections
6 – Q: But if he runs for these new elections, does Ednaldo have any chance of being elected?
Never knew. But Ednaldo has good contacts with several federations and is a strong candidate against the opposition group led by former president Marco Polo Del Nero and also influenced by former president Ricardo Teixeira (of whom Ednaldo Rodrigues was an ally in the past). It is worth mentioning that Del Nero was banned from the presidency of the CBF by FIFA in 2017 (Fifagate). It was then that Colonel Nunes took over ad interim (as he was the most senior vice president) and remained in office until Caboclo’s election in 2017. But Del Nero continues to have influence in the CBF and the candidate who has his support can in fact, win. the lesson.
7 – Q: And what is the situation with the new coach of the Brazilian team? Ancelotti had signed an agreement with Ednaldo to take over from the Copa América onwards in June. But the Bahian leader is no longer the president of the CBF…
It must be considered that there is, at least publicly, no document signed with Ancelotti and the national team. If he doesn’t have a signed contract and it’s just words, Ancelotti could consider that taking charge of the national team, in this turbulent political moment (yet another), is a risk. He would therefore remain at Real Madrid (who want to renew him). Everything is very confusing. If there was no transparency before, imagine it now.
