Back in 2008, when Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. laid the foundation stone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man, he was there! Gwyneth Paltrow, the founder of the biggest franchise in the history of cinema, already gave her features to Pepper Potts (Tony Stark’s assistant, who would become his wife) 15 years ago.
Since then, he has appeared in no fewer than 7 Marvel feature films (including The First Avengers, with Robert Downey Jr. insisting that he appear in the film’s cast). However, whoever was at Iron Man’s bedside in the final moments of Endgame didn’t go to the cinema to see that last straw.
Indeed, as she recently revealed during a Q&A at the Red Sea Film Festival, Gwyneth Paltrow never got past Phase 3 of the MCU as a viewer:
“To be honest, at some point I stopped watching them, I never saw them The last game. I can’t keep track of which is which. But I might have to at some point.”
The actor, who has no plans to take part in the next Marvel projects, as he confided last April, at least seems to remember well his beginnings in the famous superhero universe.
“The first film we made was very different from the others because the studio didn’t think it would be a huge success.”He said on stage at the Red Sea Film Festival, knowing about his participation in a separate project.
“They hired Jon Favreau to direct, and he was great. And then they hired Robert Downey Jr., who was impossible to hire at the time. His career was at an all-time low.”
The true success of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man when it hit theaters in 2008 was the beginning of Marvel’s great epic on film.
