Wolverine shows when and why he uttered his famous “badass” phrase for the first time in Marvel history
Adamantium claws and powerful healing factor are Wolverine’s two most popular features, however, the Canadian mutant also has a famous catchphrase that defines his “badass” side: the phrase “I’m the best at what I do, but what I do is not nice to look at.” But when and why did he say it for the first time? That’s what Marvel Comics finally reveals in a new comic.

Beware of spoilers for Predator vs. Wolverine#3!
In Predator vs. Wolverine #3recently released, the plot continues the decades-long hunt between the alien Yautja and Wolverine, this time with the battle between the two taking place in Japan, at the time Logan was being trained by Master Muramasa.
As Wolverine describes his unique relationship with the infamous blacksmith and Muramasa’s intense training regimen, his master says he is a skilled fighter: “But you’re not the best there is,” suggesting that the teacher himself determined the moment when whoever got the title of “best at what they do”.
It’s important to remember that Marvel has neither confirmed nor denied whether the crossover produced in collaboration between Casa das Ideias and 20th Century Studios is in the main continuity of Earth-616 — if it’s up to the fans, the Yautja are already among the aliens of the Marvelète cosmos .

Wolverine’s classic catchphrase goes right to the heart of who Logan is as a hero: brutal, cruel, but ultimately honorable. The first time he came out of the hero’s mouth was inside Wolverine #1from 1982, by the writer Chris Claremont and the artist Frank Miller.
Logan trained for years with Ogun and then Muramasa to become the skilled and knowledgeable fighter he is in modern times. Muramasa is known to be one of the most skilled sword fighters in the universe, so it makes sense that Wolverine becomes “the best” after beating him.
The blade Muramasa forged for the hero was created with a piece of Wolverine’s rage-filled soul, and it is obvious that the blacksmith would not have made this extremely powerful weapon for Logan if he did not see him as the best.
