The gymnast Rebeca Andrade was elected the protagonist of the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, this Saturday (9). The Panam Sports Awards took place in Miami, USA, where, in addition to Rebeca, Maria Eduarda Alexandre received the Popular Vote Award for Legacy of the Pan American Youth Games Cali-2021, while Douglas Matera was awarded Best Athlete the Parapan American Games.
– I am very happy and very honored. We work to achieve and have these results. I couldn’t help but thank my entire team, who are always by my side giving me this support. To my family who always supports me. It is an honor today, even at such a young age, to be an inspiration to a new generation of young people and children who are just arriving – said Rebeca Andrade.
After a strong season at the Pan Youth Games, Maria Eduarda Alexandre finished the adult competition with two golds, one silver and three bronzes. The 16-year-old gymnast, by popular vote, was elected Legacy of the Cali-2021 Pan American Youth Games.
– I feel very happy and very honored to be here. It was a very hard, very difficult journey. I thank my family for helping me publicize this award and for the support of all the Brazilian and American public – declared the gymnast.
Another winner was swimmer Douglas Matera, who won eight gold medals for Brazil at this year’s Parapan American Games. With this incredible campaign, Douglas won the award for best athlete of the competition.
– I am very happy, thank you very much for the amazing Parapan American Games. I am very proud to be a representative of the Paralympic movement in Brazil, the Americas and the world. Living with a disability is always a challenge, but it’s always worth it. So to be here and be able to say that is incredible,” Douglas said.
