The liberal center-right is moving to have a project that can be carried out in 2026. The beginning occurred with the changes in União Brasil, scheduled to take place on February 29, with the change in command of the acronym, which was early, since it was scheduled for May only.
Current president Luciano Bivar is leaving, having validated the entry of party members into the government
Lula, with three ministries (Juscelino Filho, Communications; Celso Sabino, Tourism, and Waldez
Góes, in Integration and Regional Development), and the lawyer and vice-president of
Antonio Rueda party.
Bivar was born from a process of disputes, struggles and intrigues starting from the merger between PSL and DEM, which
it happened two years ago. Rueda – who will have a mandate until 2028 – has stronger ties to the group
of the former Democrats and will take over the project of outlining strategies, encouraging new affiliations
and already organizing the Union for the municipal elections of mayors and councilors in October.
The party is third on the list of those receiving the most resources from the party fund. From January to
In September the party obtained R$71 million, just behind the PL (R$100 million) and the PT
(R$83 million), which drives polarization.
DISH. The strategy brought together a group of politicians, with or without mandate, as
the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, the federal deputy and former minister Mendonça Filho (União-PE),
the former mayor of Salvador ACM Neto and many others who see space in the current situation
outline a project that, in their vision, is coherent.
The plan aims to reorganize the groups of the former PFL, DEM, but is open to PSDB and PP and invites
mainly to the Toucan centrists who have seen the party decline in recent years. “We are one
liberal group, with some conservative ideas, but not like Bolsonarism”, defines Mendonça
Son.
These are ideas and proposals that this ideological group that has remained on the margins must defend
national politics with the polarization recorded in recent years between PT and Bolsonarism. Ride
for issues such as security, a topic that the governor of Goiás treats with extreme attention and forward
which usually highlights the defects of national politics, such as the “liberality with which the
organized crime,” for example, through to labor reform and the national core curriculum.
“Politics and Brazil have been overwhelmed by this extreme right-left combination. We must do it
recover our space, which is neither the PT nor the right of former president Jair Bolsonaro”,
says Mendonça Filho. Both DEM and PSL parliamentarians participated in the Bolsonaro government
ministry and the government’s support base in Congress.
Bolsonaro’s ineligibility causes a reorganization
By making Jair Bolsonaro ineligible for the next few years, the electoral court took the step it did
the center-right began to reorganize. A space has been opened for those who agreed with the
liberal project in economics, but they did not agree with Bolsonaro’s way of acting. Conversations have
governors also advanced, such as Tarcísio de Freitas (republicans), of São Paulo, Romeu
Zema (Novo), from Minas, Ratinho Júnior (PSD), from Paraná, and also, although a little further away, with
the toucan Eduardo Leite, from Rio Grande do Sul. Tarcísio, first ally and former minister of
Bolsonaro, according to this group, is the first name that comes to mind when thinking about 2026.
But until then we will first have to convince the governor of São Paulo. Not just because if you are
good in government and Lula is running for re-election, he has said privately that he prefers to run
another mandate, but also because it will be difficult for those who have been and, apparently, still are
so close to Bolsonaro, discard the former president. Not to mention that Bolsonaro has to be the greatest
right-wing voter in 2026.
