Tonight on TV: One of the most compelling thrillers ever made… and Robert De Niro is evil

Robert De Niro is Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Good Friends, Casino and even the recent Flower Moon Assassins. But it’s also the lesser-known and still excellent Angel’s Heart, directed by Alan Parker (Midnight Express, The Bird, Mississippi Burning).

The feature film was released in cinemas in 1987 heart of an angel Adapted from the novel Saturday in Central Park by William Hurtsberg, immerses the audience in New York, 1955. Private detective Harry Angel, played by Mickey Rourke, is hired by a certain Louis Cypher (Robert De Niro) helped Johnny Favorite, the former best man, to run away.

Said to have been disabled during the war, Favorite is languishing in a regional psychiatric clinic, but Kifri suspects a cover-up for his death. Harry Angel soon learns that his favorite has been kidnapped by two men from the southern United States for money. The investigation turns out to be more dangerous than expected, leaving death in its wake. It also takes the detective to the mystical lands of New Orleans…

A powerful, dark fantasy thriller, The Heart of an Angel plays with the concepts of good and evil, allowing Robert De Niro to deliver a terrifying performance (and Mickey Rourke to deliver arguably the best performance of his career). With its incredible atmosphere, this relatively little-known feature film starring Charlotte Rampling is not to be missed.

If you’re a fan of sticky thrillers and Robert De Niro, we can’t recommend this Heart of an Angel, an amazing thriller that attracted more than 1.3 million viewers in French cinemas. A little nugget to discover quickly!
