Goalkeeper Fábio, from Fluminense, is the oldest athlete of this edition of the World Cup, at 43 years old. Also from Tricolor das Laranjeiras, defender Felipe Melo, 40, is the second oldest player in the competition.
With the Libertadores title, Fábio became the oldest champion of the continental tournament (43 years, one month and five days), beating the record of the Ecuadorian Éver Almeida, who won the competition at 42 years, three months and nine days.

In the opening of the competition, Al-Ittihad beat Auckland City this Tuesday (12) and now prepares to face Al-Ahly, African champions, qualified for a place in the semi-finals, to face Fluminense, champions of the Libertadores.
On the other side of the group, Manchester City, winner of the Champions League, awaits the winner of the duel between León (representative of Concacaf) and Urawa Reds (winner of the Asian Champions League), which will take place this Friday (15). The grand final will take place on December 22, at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium, in the city of Jeddah.
The 2023 Club World Cup will be the last played with seven teams, according to the format used since 2005. In it, the champions of the Libertadores and the UEFA Champions League qualify directly for the semi-finals. The winners of Asia, Africa and Concacaf will participate in the quarter-finals (second phase), while the representative of the host country will face Oceania in the opening match (first phase).
