With the premiere of The World After Us, a new feature on Netflix, films and series about the end of the world once again gained prominence
Climate change, wars, possible alien invasions… We don’t know if and how the world should end, but the film industry never tires of trying to imagine how the apocalypse could happen, through films and series. The most recent news is The World After Uswhich recently arrived in the Netflix catalog.
In the film, which is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Rumaan Alam written and directed by Sam Esmail (Mr Robot), a family’s vacation in a luxurious home is compromised by a cyber attack, which causes a blackout on all devices.
The situation gets even worse when two strangers appear at the door and they begin to notice that things are getting worse and the world is collapsing, with no possibility of salvation for the family and the rest of the population. Watch the trailer:

Don’t Look Up (2021)
Another Netflix hit about the end of the world is Don’t Look Uplong Adam McKay (The big bet). In the film, two astronomers discover that a meteorite will destroy the Earth in a few months. While trying to warn humanity about the danger, a group of people encourage people not to believe in the end of the world, stating that everything is just a lie.

Interstellar (2014)
In Interstellarin Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Earth’s natural reserves are running out and a former NASA pilot is called to command an off-planet mission to find a new habitable planet. He accepts the challenge, hoping to save humanity, even though he knows he may never see his children again.

Express of Tomorrow (2013) / Expresso do Amanha – The Series (2020-2023)
Based on graphic novel namesake of Jacques Lob, Express of Tomorrow was adapted into a film, directed by Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) and starring Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame); and for a series, which has three seasons to date. In history, the world froze, after several attempts to control climate change, and the last survivors live inside a train, under a segregating and often inhumane regime.

A Quiet Place (2018)
Written, directed and starring John Krasinskiin The Office (2005-2013), A Quiet Place shows a world destroyed by alien beings, where people need to remain completely silent so as not to attract the creatures. It is in this world that Leerole of Krasinski, tries to lead a normal life with his wife and children. In 2020, the story got a sequel and, in 2024, a third film should hit theaters.

The Walking Dead (2010-2022)

The series ended with 11 seasons in 2022, but has seven spin-offs, four of which are still ongoing.
Elysium
