The end of the series bequests aired last week, marking the end of an era that began with the vampire diaries in 2009. Many fans are certainly saddened by this recent development. However, one wonders if there is a possibility of returning to Mystic Falls in the future. Well, designer Julie Plec is now opening up about the future of RST Universe.
In truth vampire diary fashion, nothing stays dead for long, as Julie Plec reveals what she has in store for next. she said plc television line that while the most recent spinoff appears to be closed, it could be used to further expand the franchise. She explained:
It’s the end of a chapter, but we can use it to kick off the beginning of another chapter, which in the end is what we want to do when all is said and done.
During the past television season, there have been numerous shows on The CW that ended up effectively ending due to cancellations. Alaric had made the decision to leave Salvatore School, but his place would be taken by none other than Caroline Forbes of the vampire diaries, performed once again by Candice King. Although bequests has just ended, Julie Plec seems to have ideas for a fourth show at the RST universe. However, it may be a bit far, as he explained:
There is absolutely hope for the future. Brett [Matthews] and Kevin [Williamson] and I have an idea creeping into our brains that we haven’t had time to put on the page yet. But we definitely want to make another branch of the tree. It’s just a question of when, I suppose.
It’s hard to say what a fourth series in this franchise will be about, but as a fan I’m curious to see what the production company and its peers will come up with. He created a very rich world, full of narrative possibilities. It could choose to do a sequel series that continues what fans have already seen or it could create a prequel focusing on some of the supernatural creatures. I’m sure the team will come up with something new, especially since the creator of the franchise thinks something like the OG series can’t be done today.
