After 737 days of captivity in the Gaza Strip, the Israelis kidnapped by Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the October 7, 2023 attacks are close to returning home. The remaining group in the Palestinian enclave consists of 48 people, of whom an estimated 20 are still alive.
Most of those who resisted were kidnapped during the Be’eri forest rave, the Nova festival, such as Rom Braslavski, who was 21 years old and worked as a security guard at the event. Last August, Islamic Jihad released a video in which he appeared skeletal and, sobbing, said he was unable to stand due to his injuries.
Another whose images were released two months ago is Evyatar David, 24, who appeared in a video digging his own grave inside a tunnel, visibly malnourished.

Also on the list of those kidnapped at the rave are Elkana Bohbot, 36, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, 24, Segev Kalfon, 26, Bar Kupershtein, 23, Eitan Mor, 25, Yosef-Haim Ohana, 24, Maxim Herkin, 27, and Alon Ohel, a talented 23-year-old pianist who also has German and Serbian citizenship and was kidnapped in an air raid shelter near the party location. He was injured by a shrapnel in his eye and is feared to be partially blind. Avinatan Or, 32, was captured together with his girlfriend Noa Argamani, who was rescued by Israeli forces in June 2024.
In turn, Hungarian-Israeli Omri Miran, 48, was kidnapped by terrorists in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, where, during the attack, Hamas militants held his family hostage, including his young daughters, and broadcast the images live on Facebook.
Miran and the father of another family, Tsachi Idan, were taken to the Gaza Strip, but the latter died. Twins Gali and Ziv Berman, 28, were taken from their homes in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, on the border with Gaza. Israeli Argentine Ariel Cunio, 28, was taken from Kibbutz Nir Oz with his girlfriend, Arbel Yehoud, who was released last January.
David Cunio, 33, Ariel’s brother, was kidnapped with his wife Sharon and their three-year-old twins in Nir Oz; all were released in November 2023 except David. Eitan Horn, 38, from Kfar Saba, was visiting his brother Iair on Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7. Matan Zangauker, 25, was also in Nir Oz, and his mother has waged a tireless two-year battle for her son and against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As for the soldiers, only two are certainly alive: Matan Angrest, 22, who was attacked and pulled from an armored vehicle in southern Israel on the morning of the massacre, and Nimrod Cohen, 21, who was abducted from a tank near the Nahal Oz base where he was stationed. The family also hopes for the release of Tamir Nimrodi, 20, but his loved ones do not yet know whether he will return home dead or alive.
According to the ceasefire agreement, Hamas must also return the bodies of the dead hostages, but not within the 72 hours allowed for the living. Among the deceased abductees are soldiers, a taxi driver, an ambulance driver, kibbutz residents – including several elderly people between 75 and 86 years old – and a woman, Inbar Haiman, 27, killed during the festival.
