The Sport in the City Project initiative offers free sports lessons in the cities of Faro, Holy Land and Porto
In the vastness of the Amazon region, where nature flourishes in its fullest expression, an important chapter continues to be written not only in the rivers and forests, but in the hearts and minds of local children. This is the Esporte na Cidade Project, which offers free sports lessons to 300 children and adolescents in the cities of Faro, Terra Santa and Porto Trombetas (quilombole communities of Moura and Boa Vista).
The initiative, led by De Peito Aberto, through the federal law on sports incentives and the support of municipalities, aims to offer sporting opportunities to children in remote communities in the Amazon.
The project not only introduces sporting activities, but also promotes values such as teamwork, resilience and self-confidence. All 300 students enrolled in the project receive a free kit of materials to use in project activities. T-shirts, shorts, socks and shoes are given to all beneficiaries.
There are 150 students in the Holy Land, 100 in the quilombola communities of Moura and Boa Vista, in Porto Trombetas, and 50 in Faro, on the border between the state of Pará and Amazonas.
For a better future
In a region where geographical distances often limit access to resources, the project breaks down not only physical barriers, but also social and economic ones. Uniforms, sports equipment and specialist coaches are provided, eliminating barriers that might otherwise prevent children from engaging.
Permanent impact
In addition to the physical benefits, the project aims to provide educational opportunities and encourage school attendance. In this way the initiative’s activities take place twice a week, always during school hours. Lectures on the environment, health and educational values are integrated into sporting activities, providing teaching even outside the sporting sphere.
Community involvement:
The community is fundamental to the success of the project. Parents, teachers and community leaders are actively involved, promoting ongoing collaboration to ensure the sustainability and longevity of the initiative, which is already traditional in the Holy Land and in the quilombola communities of Moura and Boa Vista.
