Recently seen in Belfast, the Irish Loves, or even Love Again, Jamie Dornan, nicknamed Christian Gray in fifty shades of gray, made a remarkable comeback on the small screen thanks to The Tourist, which revealed him in front of many fans once in a movie. Time and Autumn.
In the six-episode British-Australian series, Tourist was a hit on BBC One earlier this year, and Dornan is offered the difficult and enjoyable role of a “man”, an amnesiac hero who tries to find out who he is and what he is. May well treat those who tried to kill him.
In front of him, France 2 viewers will find Daniel McDonald, Patti Cake, Shalom Brun-Franklin (Cursed, World War II), Damon Harriman (justified, Quarry, Mr. Inbethoven), Olafur Dari Olafson (trapped), Lady Dynamite (Al Dynamite) and Hartley, Raw Hearts, La Gifle).
Jamie Dornan, the same man, a tourist in the series
Thriller based on memory and amnesia is a legion in cinema and television, from La Mémoire dans la peau to Blindspot, by John Doe. And on paper a tourist can look at a pale, sunny and Australian copy of Jason Bourne’s adventures. But it was without considering the talents of the creators Harry Williams and Jack Williams (Liar, Baptist) and the actors involved in this crazy adventure.
The hilarious homage to the Spielberg movie Duel, the opening scene of the series in which the protagonist, played by Jamie Dornan, chases a fast truck, is a complete success that, in addition to captivating us, carries out wonderful production ideas that reflect the tone. Tourist: A series that knows about its impact, which, despite the instructions given, is determined to surprise us.
In the atmosphere between the thriller and the comedy, a man looking for the truth about his identity and past crosses the road, Helen Chambers, a police officer who also has to deal with a caricature of the finished macho groom that constantly reminds him. In addition to his kilos, Lucy, the waiter who knows more than he lets, Billy, the annoying American cowboy, Lachlan Rogers, the inspector in charge of investigating the hero’s murder attempt, and Costa, the surprising Greek gangster.

Helen Chambers, a young investigator played by Daniel MacDonald
With this gallery of characters, alien to every other and more whimsical, unfolding in a very classic deep Australia where cursors of danger would have been taken to extremes, we are clearly thinking of the Cohen Brothers films. And that’s pretty good because the tourist turns out to be nice and completely insane.
Even if the rhythm weakens in the second half of the season, after three episodes of The High Flight, France 2’s new foreign TV series is a very good surprise, which deserves a lot because of its absurd comedy moments and its interpreters.
Amazing and often very funny, Jamie Dornan certainly finds the most beautiful role in his career here. And if all the characters, or almost all, are excited, it’s a really atypical and explosive duo that the man forms with Helen Chamberlain – the wonderful Daniel McDonald – who carries everything and greatly contributes to The Tourist’s success.
And if the responses we happily await are completed, The Tourist has had such success across the channel, with 12 million viewers at the beginning of its launch year, that the BBC has already ordered Season 2 from which we are. I still know nothing. But we can not wait to find out.
