McKellen has played Hamlet in a play at the Theater Royal Windsor
Ian McKellen will return to the role of Hamlet in a new film made at the Theater Royal Windsor, where he played the character of Shakespeare in 2021. The feature film will be shown in UK cinemas for one night on February 27th.
In addition to McKellenthe cast includes Frances Barber, Jonathan Hide, Jenny Seagrove It is Francesca Annis. After disagreements, Emmanuella Cole left production, while Steven Berkoffwho took on the role of Polonius in the stage version, joined the film.
Distributor Kaleidoscope described the film as a “uniquely modern twist” on the tragedy of Shakespeare. The film also uses almost every room in the theater and transforms it into Elsinore Castle, “from the basement dungeon to the roof battlements.”
