Ronaldo, former Cruzeiro player and majority member of the club’s SAF, took stock of the season of the celestial club in an interview with the “Canal Samuel Venâncio” this Saturday (16) and highlighted the main management errors in 2023.
Cruzeiro fought to avoid falling until the end of the Brasileirão, but ended the year with a place in the Copa Sudamericano, under experienced coach Paulo Autuori. Paulo succeeded Paulo Pezzolano, Pepa and Zé Rcardo at the helm of Raposa in 2023.
Ronaldo believes that the excessive change of coaches was one of the points that damaged the team’s season. Constant work can be very positive for a club.
– Some clear and obvious errors can be mentioned. The four coaches during the year are not something I have planned, but we have faced this problem from the beginning, with the departure of Pezzolano. He has reached a mental health limit. Then with Pepa it started well, we were pleased, but we thought that in that situation we wouldn’t have lasted long. This is one of the main mistakes.
– We haven’t had much luck either. We had a lot of injuries, some signings didn’t deliver what we expected, we suffered a lot from the lack of goals. A famous goalscorer had such a big scoring crisis that we couldn’t imagine, and he often created chances, but we can’t control it. I classify it as a mistake, but it can happen, it’s natural in football. It’s a mistake, but we lacked some luck. If we had a better goal difference, we would be fighting for the Libertadores – said Ronaldo.
The SAF member also stated that he wants to improve the relationship with the fans and continue to grow. Ronaldo made the fans an indispensable ally in Cruzeiro’s recovery process.
– We want to continue to grow, improving the relationship with the fans, it is a priority every year. Because the fan is a fundamental pillar for our project, even in the last interview, in which I was misunderstood, I never wanted to make the fans responsible, but I wanted to warn that we already have too many rivals to fight among ourselves. It was a time when we needed unity. We will already encounter natural obstacles and if we are not united it will be more difficult. Then the fans stopped focusing on that and in the final stretch they performed wonderfully. Our relationship needs to improve a lot, we have been listening and are trying to satisfy requests.
