‘Lightyear’: So are its three post-credits scenes

Two jokes and the germ of a possible sequel are more than enough to make us stay until the end of the credits.

‘Lightyear’ is one of those films that makes it clear that at Disney Pixar there is more and less Disney and less Pixar, and we’re not saying this just because it’s the fifth feature film taken from ‘Toy Story’, but because this time it’s not accompanied by any short preview (lately, better than the movies) but it does come well loaded with post-credits scenes.

For those who still don’t know, this new version of the galactic hero we met in ‘Toy Story’ (1995) with the voice of Tim Allen is reinvented. This time we are not talking about a toy but about the theater movie that toy, a whole meta game that is only the excuse of a space adventure with the sensitive, humorous and moral touches of the study of gooseneck. The film has several post-credits scenes and, although only one of them is narratively important, we are going to talk about all three.

    Spoilers for ‘Lightyear’ below

    ‘Lightyear’: First post-credits scene

After the death of Commander Hawthorne, Commander Burnside appears as the new villain of the film. He forbids Buzz to fly, he wants to take the cat away from him and instead of trying to keep fleeing the planet he bets everything on his laser barrier to protect them from bugs and plants. In the end we see how the military man was no big deal and not only forgives Buzz but lets him choose his team and go back to being a space ranger. Of course, it seems that Lightyear is not even close to the real right eye of Burnside, the quote laser barrier that kills the bugs that get close to it. Here we see him enjoying his great contribution to his colony.

    ‘Lightyear’: Second post-credits scene

The second post-credits scene is again a gag, this time one of those that are funny for as long as they last. The starter team had an enthusiastic robot whose GPS couldn’t guide Buzz to the warehouse where they would find a new vehicle. It took so long that they left without him. The remote scene is the story just at the moment when the robot gets it just to see that there is already time that they left and he is left alone. While the rest of his companions become heroes and space guardians, this poor slow-processing volunteer is left abandoned. We hope they do him justice in some way…

    ‘Lightyear’: Third post-credits scene

Without a doubt the most important. Seeing the Pixar of the last decade, it was to be expected, despite being the fifth film in the ‘Toy Story’ universe, that the seed for a new franchise would be left from this spin-off. Some critics have rightly pointed out that this movie feels a bit like a middle-of-the-road adventure within another franchise. We have no doubt that ‘Lightyear’ could have had better adventures, and perhaps it will in the future.

As anyone who has seen the movie knows, the big plot twist of the plot is based on the identity of the villain, a Zurg who is none other than Buzz from another timeline, determined to erase everyone and everything from the last century with such a goal. to fix his mistake. The protagonist Buzz confronts him and instead agrees to destroy the crystal that could accomplish his mission to destroy this Buzz, leaving him floating in space inside his giant robot suit. This post-credits scene, however, shows us how those red eyes reopen, confirming that the evil Buzz is still alive and probably out for revenge. If there is a sequel, we will see it again.
