Conmebol updates the rankings and defines the Libertadores 2024 brackets


The draw for the preliminary phase will take place on Tuesday, while the groups will be defined in March. Conmebol has not yet defined the final of the 2024 Libertadores




Conmebol published the new ranking of South American clubs on Monday. Palmeiras, who were second, became first, ahead of River Plate (ARG). With the list, moreover, the slots for the 2024 Copa Libertadores draw were defined.

Fluminense, current champions of the Libertadores, will be seeded. Despite being 12th in the standings, Tricolor will be in band 1 for having won the title. Fernando Diniz’s team, in fact, will be the A1, in the first round.

Boca Juniors (ARG) and Athletico-PR, who are among the eight best in the table, will not participate in the 2024 Libertadores. This way, the teams below, such as São Paulo and LDU (EQU) will complete pot 1. Nacional ( URU) is in the top ten, but will compete in the preliminary round. Therefore, if it reaches the group stage, it will be Pot 4.

Preliminary phase

Conmebol will draw, this Tuesday, the clashes of the preliminary phase, popularly known as “pre-Libertadores”. Botafogo and Red Bull Bragantino are the Brazilian representatives in this stage, but they only access the second of the three stages. Overall, 19 teams will fight for the remaining four places in the group stage.

Pot 2: Aucas (EQU), Puerto Cabello (VEN) and Bolivia 4

Level 2

Pot 1: Nacional (URU), Atlético Nacional (COL), Colo-Colo (CHI), Sporting Cristal (PER), Red Bull Bragantino, BotafogoPalestinian (CHI) and El Nacional (EQU)

Prize draw

The draw for the group stage will only take place in March, at the end of the preliminary phase. Teams from the same nation, however, cannot be in the same group. The exception, however, is if one of them is from the previous stage. The group stage will then begin on April 3 and run until May 29.

The final of the competition, in fact, is scheduled for November 30th. The location, however, has not yet been defined by Conmebol. Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the Monumental de Núñez, however, is the favorite city to host the match.
