The National Electricity Agency (Aneel) approved on Tuesday the resumption of electricity imports from Venezuela to serve the State of Roraima using the resources of the Fuel Consumption Account (CCC).
The CCC, one of the main charges included in consumers’ electricity bills, subsidizes the fuels used to produce energy in so-called “isolated systems”, such as Roraima and cities in the Amazon, which do not receive energy from the national electricity grid and rely on thermoelectric plants locals. .
Aneel’s authorization to subrogate the CCC for the import of energy from Venezuela is necessary because, to resume the process this year, the government issued a decree establishing new rules.
According to the decree, it must be demonstrated that there will be a reduction in CCC expenses, i.e. that the value of imports will be lower than the costs of purchasing fuel for local power generation in the systems.
According to the trading company Âmbar, part of the J&F group, the only one so far authorized to import energy from Venezuela, the energy is offered at an average cost 50% lower than that currently paid by consumers to supply Roraima.
