‘The Astronaut’ puts Adam Sandler in a role far from comedy; film also stars Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano
Directed by Johan Renck and scripted by Colby Day, The Astronaut will be starred by Adam Sandler. The film, which hits Netflix in March, is based on the book Spaceman of Bohemiain Jaroslav Kalfařand will also star Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin It is Isabella Rossellini.
“Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind may not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth”, says the synopsis.
“Desperate to patch things up with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time that he finds hidden in the bowels of his ship.” The creature, named Hanuš, is voiced by Paul Dano and “works with Jakub to understand what went wrong before it’s too late.”
“The Astronaut It started out as a short story I wrote in my senior year of college,” Kalfař he told Netflix. “Originally, it was just a joke about an American astronaut who got stuck in orbit when he got a call from his wife asking for a divorce.”
Renck confessed that he wanted a performance of Sandler “that had nothing to do with the Adam Sandler that everyone knows.” He further added, “I don’t think people understand that even though he’s seen as funny and cute and all that, he’s very intelligent and deep.”

The filmmaker also praised the “technical skills” of Mulligan and stated that Damage was the first actor that crossed his mind when thinking about the film’s creature, due to the actor’s “unique voice”.
