Released in theaters in 2019, the comedy Le Coup du siècle, led by Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway, has received a fresh press release tonight on 6ter. Give this energetic entertainment a second chance!
Le Coup du siècle is certainly not very sophisticated, but the story of two con women who come together to make life difficult for the men who broke them is full of vitality. And her shock duo of Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway (who is very happy she didn’t play Barbie) works beautifully.
Turn of the Century is a female remake of Frank Oz’s The Crookest of the Two, released in theaters in 1989 with Steve Martin and Michael Caine, a film that is itself a remake of The Seducers (1964) with Marlon Brando. “I didn’t want to just change the gender of the characters: that’s not a good enough reason to make a movie”says Rebel Wilson, actor and film producer. “I presented a completely reinterpreted and updated version of the film, with a new script led by two crooks.”
In order for Josephine, the character played by Anne Hathaway, to be believable with her high schemes, director Chris Addison wanted her to have a distinctive British accent. The actor resisted this language challenge as long as possible. “I didn’t want to have an accent, but Chris did. I tried to convince him it wasn’t necessary, but it didn’t work.”he declares.
“We totally agreed on the tone that needed to be maintained and the sense of humor that needed to be easy to pick up and subtle. And so Josephine Britannia came to insist.”Anne Hathaway continues. “As it’s none of my business, I thought he should be American. I didn’t want to work so hard, and I have to say I was scared of putting on an accent that wasn’t mine. But he insisted he’d be funnier if he was English.” .”
