The Top 5 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movies of 2023 According to AlloCiné Viewers will captivate you…
5e – Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves 3.8/5
Totally funny and refreshing, here’s the heroic fantasy surprise of 2023 – and one of the highest-grossing films of the year!
The feature film follows a group of unlikely adventurers led by an admirable thief as they pull off an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic. But things get complicated when they attract the wrath of unpleasant people…
Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honor brings the fascinating world of the legendary role-playing game to the big screen and offers a humorous, action-packed epic adventure – complete with stunning battle scenes. In the program, the perfect balance between the first and second levels, tons of geek information and the atmosphere of a real D&D game. Loyal to the world of the iconic game and supported by a great cast – including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Reg-Jean Page and Hugh Grant – the film won over its audience, newbie or not.
4th – The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Snake and the Bird 3.8/5

Eight years later, Uprising: Part 2, the dystopian saga created by Suzanne Collins, is back with a prequel, still adapted from the author’s novel, to be published in 2020. Here, we go back 64 years before the adventures of Katniss (Jennifer). Lawrence) focusing on the youth of the fearsome President Snow, played here by Tom Blyth.
Young Coriolanus, 18, is the last hope of his once-proud Snow Clan, which has fallen from grace in the post-war Capitol. As the 10th edition of The Hunger Games approaches, he reluctantly becomes Lucy Gray Baird’s (Rachel Zeigler) mentor, paying homage to the poorest and most despicable district of Panem, District 12. He sees this opportunity to change his destiny. Torn between good and evil, he and Lucy then embark on a race against time to survive and discover whether he is a songbird or a snake.
Still by Francis Lawrence, the film is faithful to the novel and offers a new perspective on the great villain of the previous saga – who unfortunately becomes attractive – through a complex narrative, careful aesthetics and excellent acting performances. Relevant, engaging, impressive, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Snake and the Bird allows us to learn more about the world it portrays. As a bonus: musical and visual references to previous films that will delight fans of the franchise.
3rd – Animal Kingdom 4/5

Crazy, daring, and completely insane French fantasy drama? Yes, if possible!
Brilliantly shot by Romain Dury, Paul Kircher and Adele Exarchopoulos, the film depicts a France where part of the population is subjected to animal mutations. In this new world, Francois does everything he can to save his wife who is affected by this mysterious phenomenon. When the region is populated by a new type of creature, he leads Emil, their 16-year-old son, on a quest that will change their lives forever.
Thomas Caley’s second feature following the highly acclaimed Les Combattants (2014), The Animal Kingdom hits hard this year by offering an ambitious and fascinating hybrid tale, halfway between family drama, sci-fi film and fantasy epic. With its quality special effects and realistic creatures, the feature film is stunning and certainly awesome. Sometimes funny, especially moving, it asks deep questions about the animal side of man, transmission and blood ties. A must see.
2nd – Guardians of the Galaxy 3 4.2/5

This year we said goodbye to our beloved Guardians of the Galaxy. Indeed, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket and Groot are back for the third and final adventure to leave us better.
In this latest installment, our favorite group of misfits, still mourning the loss of Gamora, must come together to protect the world and protect themselves. If it fails, this mission could spell the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3, still signed by James Gunn, brings together MCU veterans Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Sean Gunn for the last time. Here the emotion reaches its peak, the film deals with the concepts of trauma, mourning and compassion. But the humor and action are always there and we go from laughter to tears in an instant. With its ever-engaging characters, top-notch staging, and superb photography, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is a beautiful conclusion to the famous trilogy that will make any Marvel fan nostalgic for the name.
1st – Godzilla Minus One 4.4/5

The mythical monster is making a (very) noticeable return at the end of the year! In a very short time, Godzilla Minus has become a real phenomenon, is now considered an international hit and creates a surprise at the box office. Takashi Yamazaki’s Japanese film has nothing to envy to its American counterparts, and is the best in the saga according to viewers, who rated it 4.4 out of 5: so it says.
In this spectacular feature film, Japan has barely recovered from World War II when a gigantic threat looms off the coast of Tokyo. Koichi, a suicidal terrorist deserter traumatized by his first encounter with Godzilla, sees this as an opportunity to atone for his actions during the war.
Let me be clear: this is a pure masterpiece. In Godzilla minus one, everything is sophisticated, intelligent and sensitive – from the production to the script to the acting of its actors. The legendary monster here is just a way to talk about the absurdity of war, reconstruction and the power of life – and it’s stunning. A charming and beautiful period film and a great moment in cinema that will simply leave you speechless.
