Rated 4 out of 5 This ‘masterpiece’ of a western comes to cinemas and is not to be missed!

The great Spaghetti Western classic, My Name is Nobody, is being re-released in cinemas on December 20th, restored in a 4K version by Imagine Ritrovata – Cineteca di Bologna. Distributed by Lost Films and Studio Canal, the production is directed by Tonino Valerii and stars the ineffable Terence Hill.

Released in France in 1973, My Name is Nobody attracted 4.7 million moviegoers! The story takes us to 1895. A gang of 150 killers, the “Savage Horde”, reigns terror in several states.

Sullivan (Jean Martin), a murderer, gold digger and thief, owner of a gold mine, joins forces with the Horde to sell the gold stolen by the bandits to make people believe that their loot is officially coming from the mine.

The latter gives the order to kill one of his former accomplices, William Beauregard, brother of the famous gunslinger Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda). He then hires Nobody (Terrence Healy), a particularly terrifying challenger.

Written and produced by the father of spaghetti westerns, Sergio Leone, My Name Is Nobody’s Era. The director of Once Upon a Time in the West is credited only as a screenwriter (original idea) and producer, but he also directed several scenes in the film, including the opening sequence or confrontation between Jack Beauregard and the “Savage of the Horde.”

Additionally, her relationship with film director Tonino Valeri quickly deteriorated along the way. And the film’s promotional campaign didn’t help matters as Leone’s name was brought up.

Note that famous composer Ennio Morricone wrote the score for My Name Is Nobody. His grandiose and operatic music elevates the feature film and gives it a grand scale, as is often the case with this genius musician.

Henry Fonda

The last gasp of the western genre

“In the early 1970s, I observed with dismay that a parody of a mediocre Italian western. We call it the Trinity Being more successful than his own films, Sergio Leone decided to counterattack: he imagined and created a comic Western, which made Terence Hill, a stubborn puppet who made fun of the peninsula, throw Henry Fonda at the feet of the island survivor. West. That’ll be my name is nobody”explains specialist Olivier Perre, director of Arte France Cinéma.

“The meeting of time and a living legend, an excuse for melancholic reflection on sonship, old age and the end of an era, works perfectly, against all expectations, and the commercial recipe is not devoid of ambition and talent.

This hugely popular title, a huge public success at the time, hides a very beautiful film. It’s both an ironic and poignant postscript to Leone’s cinematography, and a farewell to Westerns in general thanks to Fonda’s brilliant presence.emphasizes Olivier Pere.

Terence Hill

Terence Hill became somebody by playing Nobody

Indeed, the face of Terrence Hill’s character is clearly related to that of Trinita. The actor was also chosen in large part because he portrayed this parody spaghetti western hero who revolutionized the genre, in stark contrast to Henry Fonda, the representative of the traditional western. Here we just call him “Nobody”.

A true phenomenon, My Name Is Nobody was a critical and commercial triumph. With 4.7 million admissions in France, Terrence Hill is ahead of stars Jean-Paul Belmondo in Le Magnifique or Lino Ventura and Jacques Brel in L’Emmerdeur. Do not hesitate to run to the theaters to (re)discover this iconic work from December 20th!
