The former player has been serving his sentence since April 2024, in P2 Tremenbé, a prison located in the interior of São Paulo and known for having famous inmates
Former Santos, Atlético and Brazilian club player Robinho has revealed details of how he lives in P2 Tremembé, a prison in the interior of Sao Paulo, where he is serving a sentence for gang rape. Jailed since March 2024, he said he received no privileges, even after building a successful career in football.
“I have never had any kind of benefit. The visits are on Saturday or Sunday. When my wife does not come alone, she comes with my children. The eldest plays football and the two youngest can come. The visit is the same and the treatment is the same for everyone. The lies that have come out that I am a leader, that I have a psychological problem. It has never happened to me, I have never had to take drugs, thank God. Despite the difficulty of being in a penitentiary, it is normal, but thank God I have always had I have a good head and I’m doing everything I can to ensure that all the re-education students can do the same.”
Robinho said he follows the same routine as other inmates. However, the former player said he plays football in prison when he is free from work.
“The food I eat, the time I sleep, everything is the same as other re-educated children. I have never eaten different food, I have never had different treatment. When I work, here I do everything that all the other re-educated children can do. When we want to play football, we are free when we don’t have to work on Sundays.”
The former athlete, who also played for big European clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan, said he does not exercise any type of leadership in the chain.
“Here the goal is to re-educate, re-socialize those who have made mistakes. I have never had any type of leadership here, anywhere. Here the guards are in charge, as I told you, and we, re-educated, just obey.”
The Italian court has convicted Robinho, in three cases, of participating in a gang rape against an Albanian woman in January 2013, when he played for AC Milan. The sentence was nine years’ imprisonment. In March 2024, the Brazilian court granted the request that the former player could serve his sentence in Brazil.
