Augusto Melo turns out to be annoyed by the announcement of a new sponsor for Corinthians; understand

Augusto Melo, president of Corinthians for the next three years, revealed his shock with the announcement EZZE Seguros as the club’s new sponsor. The branding will be emblazoned on the upper back of the men’s professional soccer team starting next season.

The entrepreneur should be consulted before any decision regarding new sponsorships, as would have been agreed between him and Duilio Monteiro Alves, whose mandate expires.

“We are experiencing a smooth transition and in the past we were informed before anything regarding sponsorship. We are negotiating better proposals and tomorrow we were surprised by this news. It was agreed that we would be informed. This is our shock,” commented Augusto Melo in an interview with ESPN.

Augustus’ statement highlights uncertainties in what has been called a “gradual transition” between administrations.

The contract with EZZE Seguros also plans that the brand will print the shoulder blades of the jerseys that the team will wear during the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, in addition to other deliveries in the Timão media and content ecosystem.

In the note released by Corinthians, no information was provided regarding the value of the negotiation or the duration of the contract.

One of Augusto Melo’s objectives is to give value to the Corinthians shirt. The club is negotiating with three bookmakers to change its main sponsorship in 2024 and it is understood the value of the deal could reach R$100 million by the start of next season.

Proposed by Wesley

In the same interview, Augusto Melo revealed that the club denied a proposal of 8 million euros (around R$43 million) for striker Wesley, revealed in the team’s youth categories.

The idea of the new board is to play a “hard game” to negotiate the club’s assets. In the case of the sale of Gabriel Moscardo to Paris Saint-Germain, Augusto understood that the club had little bargaining power to ask for a higher price. The athlete’s desire to play in French football also played a role.

PSG’s offer should be around 22 million euros (R$ 118 million).
