Many viewers have already heard the titles Must Not Take God’s Children for Wild Ducks or The Influence of Gamma Rays on the Behavior of Daisies, but these are not the longest titles in cinema history.
THE Guinness Book of Records In 1979, the prize for “film with the longest title” was awarded to an Italian political thriller directed by Lina Wertmüller with – excuse me – Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. And here it is:
A fatto di sangue nel comune di Siculiana fra two uomini per causa di una dova. If sospettano moventi politici. Amor-Morte-Shim. Beautiful Lugano. Tarantella. Taraluchi and wine
Or, literally translated: “Blood was spilled in the town of Siculiana between two men over a widow. Political motives suspected. Beautiful Lugano. Tarantella. Biscuits and wine.”
Have you seen the longest sci-fi movie? (You must find 4h47!)
In French, the film’s distributor opted for a much shorter title, while sticking to the idea of a possible plot: D’Amour et de Sang.
The story takes place in Sicily in 1922. Angelo Paterno is murdered by Vito Acchicatena (Turi Ferro). Everyone knows this, but no one testifies at the trial. Months later, attorney Rosario Spallone (Mastroianni) tries to convince his widow, Titina Paterno (Lauren), to request a retrial.

The work of the director Lina Wertmüller is worth rediscovering, as we owe him some excellent films, including Pascalino, already with Mastroianni, but also to an unusual fate on the blue waves of summer or a film of love and anarchy, both by Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela. Melato. Unfortunately, the filmmaker died in 2021.
