The Crown on Netflix: No Season 7, But Creator Has More Ideas!

Netflix announced it some time ago: The Crown will end with season 6. Peter Morgan and his army of screenwriters envisioned the end of the series as a tribute to the late Queen and a symbolic transfer of power between her and Charles.

Currently, the streaming platform is not aiming to produce a season 7 of The Crown, even if there is still plenty to say about the British royalty. And when we look at last season’s viewership numbers, which are relatively low, we tell ourselves that the historic streak is coming to an end at just the right time.

But if there’s anyone who isn’t leaving the door closed for The Crown, it’s its creator, Peter Morgan. Someone who has spent more than eight years chronicling the history of the royal family over six decades has some ideas in mind. Not a sequel – which wouldn’t be very interesting given that the events are very modern – but a prequel. This is what he said in this interesting interview variety :

“I have an idea, yes. But first I want to focus on something else. And then, if I go back to The Crown, all conditions must be met. In my head, we’ve gone back in time to Elizabeth II.”

Still, according to US media reports, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos has informed the screenwriter that he would be open to producing his next project if he felt there was something to say. And there’s a lot to do. Especially Queen Victoria, whose reign has already been adapted for film and television, but whose story is the most fascinating. This is a series we really want to see.
