In 2023, music festivals and podcasts have increased in Brazil, reflecting public interest in collective and diverse experiences. Spotify has released the major movements in the audio industry during the year, based on consumer data and research carried out by the company.
The impact of international tours
Several international artists have visited Brazil and, in some way, have generated movement in the platform’s charts.
Roberta Pate, business leader of Spotify in Brazil, has observed this impact in particular on the Spotify charts, which are normally occupied by many national artists.
The band Coldplay, known for its unforgettable shows, revived Brazilian listeners en masse and occupied 10th place in the Top Artists Brazil chart in the week between 10 and 16 March.
Taylor Swift, who recently visited Brazil, is the only international artist in the TOP 5 most listened to daily and weekly in Brazil.
The strengthening of fandoms in podcasts
Podcast fans were more passionate about their favorite shows and artists than their favorite TV shows and actors, creating a subculture of engagement and identification.
The Podcast Festival confirmed this trend with tickets selling out in 24 hours and live sessions with fans of the biggest names in podcasts across different genres.
The speed of audio consumption
Culture is evolving faster and faster and consumers are trying to keep up with everything faster. Therefore, many listeners speed up songs and podcasts or opt for faster, remixed versions of the original tracks.
Spotify’s Culture Next global trends report showed that 40% of Gen Z listened to a podcast quickly in the past year, and 58% sped through songs.
Viral trends
Viral trends cause culture to evolve faster than ever. And so the songs obtained versions, in addition to the original, and by the same artists.
The viral trend of sped-up remixes of popular songs, usually produced by amateurs, has led mainstream and emerging artists to invest in providing new versions, ready to be consumed by their listeners.
This was the case of Lana Del Rey with Say Yes To Heaven, and of SZA, for example, with the song Kill Bill, which continue to get millions of streams every month.
In total, versions of 100 tracks are compiled in Spotify’s Accelerated Songs playlist.
The presence of podcasts
Finally, podcasts have become inseparable companions for many listeners, promoting candid conversations, revealing exciting stories to listeners who consume them at different times of the day, replacing television.
What started as a rest for the eyes after an avalanche of video content, has become a constant second screen with avid listeners for all types of content, be it news, fiction, politics, comedy, wellness, horror and much more .
