While a little boy and his grandmother cross paths with witches who are as charming as they are wonderful, the grandmother takes our new hero to a luxurious seaside resort. Unfortunately, they arrive just as the master wizard is gathering his minions from around the world – Incognito – to carry out his nefarious plans…
Sacred Witches was the subject of controversy upon its release. In the film, Anne Hathaway hides her hands, which have only three fingers, under gloves. A visual detail that does not appear in either the original book or the 1990 film adaptation, and which caused outrage among people with ectrodactyly (a genetic disorder characterized by malformation of the hands and feet). The producers of the film, as well as the actor, have apologized.
Finally, we note that in the scene where all the witches reveal their true colors, Anne Hathaway went through an intense make-up phase. Most of the sessions lasted five hours so that the actor would be unrecognizable.
