It all begins when 16-year-old Lorelai, known as Rory, is accepted into a prestigious private high school thanks to her brilliant academic results. Her mother, Lorelai Gilmore, 32, then has to return to her previous (affluent) life in order to finance her daughter’s education: so she has no choice but to ask her parents for financial help. A hotel manager in Stars Hollow, a small Connecticut town populated by people of color, Lorelai single-handedly raised Rory, who she had at age 16. Their extraordinary mother-daughter relationship, their friendship above all else, is a strong theme of this beloved series.
