In Zack Snyder’s space epic Rebel Moon, several characters appear briefly before the rest of the film fades away. The director reveals that the director’s cut – which is expected to be more than an hour long – will further develop those who were killed in the editing room. This is the case of robot Jim, voiced by actor Anthony Hopkins.
In one of the final shots of the featurette, the android reappears where it was left two hours earlier, in a wheat field on the planet Veldt, wearing a crown adorned with horns and a staff. Did Jimmy treat people badly and control the village? Not at all.
“In the sequel, we find Jimmy struggling with his humanity, his conscienceZack Snyder explains to AlloCiné about the character in Part 2. What is his place in the world? I think this is a question we all ask ourselves to some degree, and his journey is perhaps an interesting metaphor for our own..”
He follows: “There is more Jimmy in the director’s cut. We understand where his horns come from. Let’s say that this crown is more about his evolution in contact with the natural world. In other words, the robot will become a spiritual being.
Although the first images of the second part were released by Netflix on December 25, the sequel will be available on the platform from April 19.
