Whoopi Goldberg’s role in The Color Purple ‘seemed like the perfect part’, says screenwriter

Scheduled for release on January 4, 2024 in Brazilian cinemas, The Color Purple has already arrived in other regions of the world, and the film team directed by Blitz the Ambassador started talking about some details, such as the participation of Whoopi Goldbergwho participated in the 1985 film version directed by Steven Spielberg.

“We had a hard time figuring out where this could happen and what character she would be, because the movie Spielberg has great importance in our culture,” he said. “And these actresses grew up watching these iconic roles that inspired them to become actresses.”

“Symbolically, this felt like the perfect role, because not only did she encourage her during the birth, but it’s as if she gave birth to the role herself and now we see her conveying it,” the screenwriter continued in the conversation.
