A brand new series from the Pokemon universe is coming to Netflix. This Friday, December 28, the platform will present The Pokémon Receptionist, a four-episode stop-motion animated program that follows the adventures of Haru, a young hotel employee who greets travelers and their Pokémon companions.
It goes without saying that the Netflix series has no direct connection to the famous Pokemon cartoon, which has been airing since 1997. But there is no doubt that this new production will delight both early fans and the youngest viewers who have the program. It seems to aim first.
Among the Pokemon expected in this friendly animated series, creatures well known to fans such as Psyduck, Bulbasaur, Dragonite and Axoloto, of course without forgetting the essential Pikachu. Japanese singer Maria Takeuchi (known for the song Plastic Love) also signs the show’s main theme.
After the success of the Detective Pikachu movie, Netflix has been developing a live-action series project for several years. While the live-action adaptation appears to be on hold, this first collaboration between the platform and The Pokemon Company could be a harbinger of others, especially if it’s successful!
Recall that the Pokemon franchise is considered the most profitable of all time, with global revenue estimated at approximately $88 billion. That is, revenues far exceed those of the Marvel ($32.3 billion) and Star Wars ($46.7 billion) franchises combined.
The animated series The Pokémon Receptionist is now available exclusively on Netflix.
