Izabela Rodrigues da Silva was one of the stars of Brazilian athletics in 2023. The athlete from Sao Paulo had a consistent year and ended the season with the gold medal in the discus throw at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Owner of the seven best specialty brands in the South American Ranking, she now dreams of participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
With 11th place in Tokyo-2020, Izabela became the first Brazilian to compete in an Olympic discus final. In Paris she intends to repeat the feat. Therefore she spent the three week holiday active. “I have maintained my physiotherapy and gym routine while resting. The 2024 season will be short and the objective will be to make the most of all the races and training sessions to try to improve the result”, she underlined. Her personal best is 63.04 m.

“My plan for Paris is to reach the Olympic final again, which will also be my birthday, just like in Tokyo. Certainly going to the final would be my greatest gift”, commented Izabela Rodrigues. The decision for the discus throw in Paris is scheduled for August 2, the date on which the athlete will turn 29.
About Isabella
The only woman to win athletics gold at Pan, Izabela Rodrigues ended the year at the top of the Brazilian and South American rankings for 2023. The milestone of 62.68m was reached in May. She has been coached by João Paulo Alves da Cunha since 2014, the year in which she won the gold medal at the U20 World Championships. “We work together continuously and build dreams to always improve,” she said.
The athlete began practicing athletics at the age of 11, in Adamantina, in a physical education course. “I started at the municipal school, and excelled in some competitions, when I was 14 or 15. Shortly after, I moved to São Paulo to train,” he recalled.

However, as a daughter of the land, Izabela regrets the lack of support for Adamantina. “It’s a good city to train athletes, it’s a shame it doesn’t have support. It’s hard enough to be an athlete in itself, without the city’s support it becomes even worse, without grassroots trained teams, it’s difficult to have elite athletes in the future, if it was already difficult before, imagine it now”, he concluded.
