Is the ‘Upside Down’ Eleven’s doing or did she just open the portal?
There is less left for us to discover the outcome of season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’and little by little the promotional acts of the Netflix series are giving us long teeth.
Millie Bobby Brown recently gave an interview to Variety to reveal various details about his work on ‘Stranger Things’, and has left several clues about the future of the series… But also about its past.
SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 OF ‘STRANGER THINGS’
The protagonist has commented on the end of season 4 part 1 of ‘Stranger Things’, how the scenes were made in which Eleven appears as a child and several mysteries about the Upside Down World and its origin.
Millie Bobby Brown had to play a “young” version of her character again, a nine-year-old Eleven set in 1979, four years before the events of the first season. As the scenes are shaped through Eleven’s own memories, teenage Millie Bobby Brown herself takes on the role despite the age difference.
But, when the girl Eleven appears in flashbacks and visions, those responsible for the series chose to hire a young actress, Martie Blair, and then digitally replace her face with that of a young Brown.
Brown and Blair worked closely together on the set, with the former helping and advising the latter on making the performance as faithful as possible and achieving some of the best episodes of ‘Stranger Things’.
“I was like: ‘Let me tell you what happened and we will solve it together’.” Millie comments. “It was great.”
The actress comments that she provided the help she didn’t have at the time, when she didn’t know where Eleven was headed and had to find out for herself.
“Because she was raised in an insane asylum with a man to whom she is biologically unrelated, but emotionally and psychologically attached and connected, she suffers from severe Stockholm Syndrome.. I didn’t know this when I was 10 years old, because no one would have explained it to me, and I probably didn’t need to know either. But now that I’m 17 years old, going back to that 10 year old me, I’ve learned all this new information about Eleven. So I was able to bring a whole new dynamic and insight to Eleven that I had never been able to explore because of how young I was. This person who hurts her, Dad, loves her too. Y Facing her again, in this relationship that is so destructive and so painful, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do on the show.”
The most visible face of ‘Stranger Things’, the most watched series on Netflix, also confirmed that it is she who opens the first portal between our world and the Upside Down World, and wonders if the ‘Upside Down’ was already there or it was she who created it: “This is too big a debate for me to answer… I think… No, no, no. I think the alternate universe was always there. That was always under Hawkins. Only she has access. I don’t think she created the Upside Down. No, I think she was always there, I think she just created a door that no one could open before.”
The last two episodes of season 4 will premiere on July 1 on Netflix and will last longer than usual, being practically feature films. On this, the actress commented: “Well, when I was filming, I thought, they’re going to have to cut a lot to fit one hour episodes, because we have been filming for three years. Then when they told me the episodes were, you know, really long, I said: ‘Oh, okay, now I understand, every scene stays.’ We have a lot of history to tell.“
The fifth season of ‘Stranger Things’, which will have another time jump, will be the last season of the series.
