The defender published a farewell message on social media and thanked his former club for everything he experienced there in more than seven years: “It was an honor”
The end of the year has arrived and with it also the termination of many contracts, one of which is that of Gil, ex-Corinthians. This Sunday (31) the 36-year-old defender published his farewell to Timão on social media. He did not have his contract renewed and ends his second spell at the club.
“I can only be grateful for everything I have experienced intensely in these seven and a half years at Corinthians. A club that has been my second home, for which I have spared no effort to fight and to represent the 35 million fans” , Gil wrote.
The former Corinthians player continues.
“It was an honor to wear this shirt in 444 matches, with goals, collective and individual successes, the Brazilian national team, victories, defeats, laughter, tears and everything, always with the certainty of having given my all and having done my best” , he recalled.
Gil underlined, however, that in these more than seven years at the club he has built a sort of family. On and off the pitch, with Timão’s shirt, after all, he guaranteed to be very happy. And he thanked him.
“A place where I have made great friends, on and off the pitch, and will hold them all in my heart forever. Thank you, Corinthians,” he wrote on his profile.
Three titles in seven years
After all, in his two spells at Corinthians, Gil played 444 games, 435 of which he started. There were 185 wins, 145 draws and 110 defeats. After all, he scored 19 goals and won three titles: Campeonato Paulista (2013), Recopa Sul-Americana (2013) and Campeonato Brasileiro (2015).
After leaving Corinthians, Gil was approached by Atlético-GO, Cruzeiro, Fluminense and Vasco. However, he preferred to settle for Santos.
