‘It was hard to be strong’: Tom Selleck recalls the hardest scene of the series

As an actor, it is not easy to choose a favorite episode of a TV series that you are acting in. Especially if it spans more than 10 years, as is the case with police drama Blue Bloods – which will end its 14th and final season this year. But the show’s star, Tom Selleck, has one: It’s an episode of “Where Were You on 9/11?” (Season 2, Episode 12, “The Work” in its original title), an episode that demanded a lot from the actor emotionally.

Here, the story revolves around Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), who is attacked by an unknown gunman along with his family. However, the emotion is based on his father Frank’s experience (Tom Selleck) who must come to terms with the death of his former partner, who became gravely ill on September 11, 2001, after his heroic work at the World Trade Center. Tom Selleck He focused on this topic in an interview with TV Insider.

The one that will always be my favorite is “Where were you on 9/11?” In which you discover that Frank was in the North Tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11. It was quite exciting because 9/11 was still fresh in people’s minds. It was difficult for me as an actor to be strong, not to break down, because Frank is stronger than that. The episode ends with people getting sick from being there at the time. We were the first series to be allowed to show the World Trade Center Memorial right after it was completed.

The episode is really about the importance of 9/11 in the memory of those who witnessed it, just like Frankie does in the series. As the story reveals, he was in one of the towers of the Word Trade Center on the day of the attacks and suffers from something called survivor’s guilt syndrome. With so much emotional depth, it’s no wonder this is my favorite episode Tom Selleck.

Before the series returns for its final 14th season, you can watch Blue Bloods again on Paramount+.
